Second day of the Flying 15 Australian Nationals and Worlds Pre-event.  Another glorious day on Port Phillip Bay for the 106 competitiors. After three races completed Britain’s Mike Hart and Richard Rigg lead ahead of Javier Chacártegui and Miguel Santaursula, of Spain who have the advantage of a better discard.

The second race for the aussie titles was started at 12.05 in about 7-8 knots from 165 degrees, but breeze was unstable. This time the boats on the left gained on the first beat with a good shift a more pressure.

Britain’s Barry Parkin and Tim Hall led from start to finish but were OCS so the gun went to Hart and Rigg. David McKee took third place.

The second race of the day was started in a good 12-14 knot sea breeze at 155 degrees, which increased throughout the race to about 18 knots by the end from 165.

Boats from each side of the course arrived at the first windward mark together. Steve Goacher and Phil Evans came in from the left and led followed by Graeme Lillingston and Ed Respecuvious of Australia who had gone hard right.

A gybe set on the run powered Lillingston into the lead by the leeward gate. However, Goachers superior upwind pace meant he regained the lead and went on to do one of his famous horizon jobs.

A good tussle endured behind Goacher with Grant Alderson and Dean Mcauley of Australia eventually taking second with Lillo third.

Alderson and Mcauley are tied in fourth place overall with Lillingston and Respecuvious and lead the Australian Title race.
