Flying Fifteen Mailing List This is an e-mail based
discussion list for Fifteen sailors. It is similar in concept to a
"Usenet News group". Members of overseas associations are welcome. If
you want to join, please read the notes and
charter below, then either click on the "Subscribe"
link below:
Subscribe to the Flying 15 Mailing List
or send a mail to
flying15-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Instructions are also available for changing the
address to which messages are sent.

The mailing list is free to the users, and is financed
by advertising. Yahoo claim to gear the advertising towards the users of
a given list. They ask certain demographic questions on sign up, but you
may ignore these if you wish. If you choose to ignore the questions,
please give at least a first name.
Before you are given full access to the list, the
moderator (see below) would like to know who you
are, what boat(s) you sail (you don't have to be an owner), and what
club/country you are in. This is for two reasons, firstly so that the
moderator can ensure that list members have an interest in the class, and
secondly, should there be a need to contact some one in a particular
club/country, this may be done relatively easily. This information will
be held by the list moderator only.
The company that runs the list states that they do not
supply details of their subscribers to third parties, therefore you should
be safe from "Spam".
The list is a private list. This means that
Yahoo groups who run the list do
not publicise its existence, that is done by Flying Fifteen sailors. This
was felt to be the best option by the original list members.
All messages sent to the list will be automatically
forwarded to the members (including the originator). Only members may
post to the list. The moderator does not approve or censure material,
although if necessary, items will be removed from the archive.
Mailing List Charter
Introduction
This "Charter" is meant to provide guidance on how the
mailing list works, and to prevent it from becoming a general talking
shop, with occasional reference to the Flying Fifteen class.
Name
The list is called
flying15@yahoogroups.com
Membership
The list is open to anyone who has an interest in the
Flying Fifteen class, regardless of whether or not they own one, and what
country they live in.
Moderator
The moderator is the person who approves applications to
join, and is responsible for the general running of the list.
The moderator is Richard Ledger (flying15-owner@yahoogroups.com).
Any references to "I" in this charter refer to the
moderator. Any references to "we" refer to the list members.
Subscribing
Subscribing to the list will be via a link on the BIFFA
website.
New members may be asked certain information that is
used by the company who run the list. This is supposed to be to help them
select suitable advertising messages that are attached to all outgoing
messages. In addition, I would like to know a few basic details (e.g.
number of boat sailed, country, club). All subscriptions will have to be
approved by the moderator.
New members will be asked to agree to this charter
before being given write access to the list.
Members will be able to unsubscribe at any time via the
Yahoo groups website, or by
email.
Subject Matter
Postings should be limited to matters of relevance to
the class. These could include discussion on rule changes, venues, and
the racing rules. Other sailing related topics (e.g. the
forthcoming Olympics) are unlikely to be considered relevant, even though
there may be ex-class members sailing there.
New subjects should indicate the topic in the title (e.g.
World championships, class rule x.y).
If a topic is likely to be of interest to only one country or region, then
it should be indicated in the subject (e.g. Nationals - AUS,
Championships - Europe).
Members are reminded that there may be younger family
members reading postings.
Virus warnings (which are invariably hoaxes) will result
in the poster having their posting rights withdrawn. Hoax warnings
usually request that essential files are deleted from the recipients
computer, and as such are a deliberate act of vandalism.
Content
Postings should be text only, attachments will be
automatically removed (which should prevent most viruses from getting
through to you). If you have pictures that you think may be of interest
to other members, then say so, indicating where they can be obtained from
(website or email address).
Postings should be in plain text, not HTML. The list
will treat HTML as an attachment, so it will be automatically removed from
postings.
Promotion of the list
The list will be promoted by the Flying Fifteen
International and British Isles websites, and any other interested Flying
Fifteen websites around the world.
Changing Your E-Mail Address
There are two ways of changing the address that mail is
sent to. One is to subscribe again with a new address, and delete the old
one. If you do this, you will probably get mail from me asking you to
confirm who you are (as you did when you signed up originally). The
better way is to change the existing address.
According to Yahoo, if you want to change the address
you are using, you need to do the following :
Log on to the
Yahoo
groups site.
Click on the Account Info link in the upper right corner
Click the edit image next to "member information"
Change your address, or add your new address as an alternate and click
Finished
Click the edit image next to "member information" again
If your new address is listed as "non-verified", click that link and
then follow those pages (with the email) to verify your address
Ok, now you've added a new address to your account.
Now, to change your Groups subscriptions to it:
Go to [Preferences]
http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs?edit=2
If the new address is already known to eGroups, you'll have to convert
it. Sorry, we're working on eliminating this part. If this is the
case, it'll be listed under "Not currently available for Subscription",
and you can click the "Convert" link to convert it.
Now, head over to My Groups at
http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups
Click on the "Edit Delivery Options" link
You should now be able to select your new email address in each of the
drops downs.
If you want, you can then "remove" your other address from your account
by going back to the My Preferences page and clicking "Remove"
